Description
This walking tour, led by a medieval monk, brings alive the extraordinary Christian history of the Royal Mile. The old street and its closes are filled with the stories and exploits of Christians over the centuries who have impacted the world through law, democracy, human rights, education, social reforms, science and medicine. We visit Magdalen Chapel, birthplace of the Scottish Reformation led by John Knox, the beautiful Presbytery Hall (*) with its treasures, the Covenanter memorials, Greyfriars’ Kirk, St Giles’ Cathedral and the historic St Columba’s Free Church. The history of the Royal Mile spans from before Columba and Cuthbert to the present day and is against the backdrop of movements such as The Enlightenment, which produced such people as David Hume, James Hutton, Adam Smith and Charles Darwin.
For groups of 5 or more, the tour will be joined by a professional singer Isolde James-Griffiths and Abi the Collie.
